Students interested in any aspect of the fashion and apparel industry are encouraged to become members of this organization. There are many opportunities to network with faculty, alumni, and professionals as well as fellow students. Throughout the year FDMA invites a variety of speakers from the apparel industry to campus and sponsors field trips and social events.
The FDMA also organizes, sponsors, and coordinates an annual fashion show which presents the apparel design students' work.
Illinois State Fashion Show
A program highlight is the annual Illinois State Fashion Show, organized by the FDMA. The show features over 50 designs created by design and merchandising students and is completely student run.
Fix It Friday
A collaboration between the FDMA and the Office of Sustainability, Fix It Friday is an effort to educate and help consumers to fix their clothing rather than to be so quick to discard them. FDM students set up "shop" in various places around campus and the surrounding community (in food truck style!) to mend and sew clothing items in need of basic repair for free.
This service is available to anyone in need. You can bring an item that might have a rip or is missing a button, and our skilled fashion students will make it new again! Find out where we will be rolling out our sewing machines next by following along at Facebook and Instagram or check out our Fix It Friday website.
