Competitions
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences hosts the following program competitions each year for students interested in joining one of our specific majors. Details for our 2022-2023 annual competitions are now available below.
Scholarships awarded through these competitions are expected to be used for students beginning at ISU in Fall 2023. Students not beginning at ISU until Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 may request these scholarship funds be deferred until that time. Any questions about these competitions should be directed to fcscompetitions@IllinoisState.edu.
Fashion Design Competition
Tap into your creative side and bring your style to life by submitting a design sketch or window display photo in a competition to be displayed at Illinois State University's Annual Fashion Show. The Fashion Design Competition provides students who are interested in working in the fashion industry with a chance to showcase their skills while showing off their originality, creativity, and visual voice.
Scholarships
The first 10 students in each category (high school and community college) to submit a design will receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue Fashion Design and Merchandising at ISU.
The top design winners in each category (high school and community college) will receive:
- Travel funds to attend the fashion show on Saturday, April 29, 2023
- Behind-the-scenes tour on day of event
- $4,000 scholarship to pursue Fashion Design and Merchandising at ISU

Food and Beverage Management Video Competition
Do you have a passion for nutrition, business, and/or entrepreneurship? The Food and Beverage Management program invites you to participate in its very first Video Competition! Create a short video or TikTok that describes and attracts people to your ideal restaurant, food truck, or cafe concept.
Scholarships
The first 10 students in each category (high school and community college) to submit a video or TikTok will receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue Food and Beverage Management at ISU.
The top winners in each category (high school and community college) will receive:
- Travel funds to visit the ISU Food and Beverage Management program facilities
- Behind-the-scenes tour of ISU Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality
- $4,000 scholarship to pursue Food and Beverage Management at ISU

Human Development and Family Science Video Competition
The Human Development and Family Science program invites you to participate in its very first Video Competition! Create a short video or TikTok that educates, informs, or provides tips for improving and/or maintaining healthy relationships.
Scholarships
The first 10 students in each category (high school and community college) to submit a video or TikTok will receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue Human Development and Family Science at ISU
The top winners in each category (high school and community college) will receive:
- Travel funds to visit ISU's Human Development and Family Science program facilities
- $4,000 scholarship to pursue Human Development and Family Science at ISU
