The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers applied fields of study that focus on enhancing the lives of individuals, their families and communities.
FDM offers classes in both design and merchandising. This exposes students to a wide variety of fields including Fashion Designer, Buyer, Product Developer, and other careers in the fashion industry.

FND includes two options: Dietetics and Food and Beverage Management. Dietetics prepares students to become a Registered Dietitian. Food and Beverage Management combines business and management principles with food service and hospitality skills.

This program prepares students to provide educational, preventative, and intervention services to individuals and families. Students are also prepared for graduate studies in a variety of related disciplines.

The Illinois State FCS Teacher Education program is the largest producer of FCS teachers in Illinois. Students in this program are prepared to teach in a variety of Family and Consumer Science areas.
