The FCS teacher education program has a strong reputation within the State of producing high-caliber teachers in FCS. Our program prepares FCS teacher candidates in the areas of human development; parenting and child development; sewing, textiles and fashion; food, nutrition and hospitality; interior design; and consumer education along with the fundamentals of teaching. Teacher candidates are able to obtain an Illinois teacher’s license in a 4-year or 2-year degree program. Endorsement options are available.
Our program meets the Illinois teacher licensure requirements. FCS teacher education graduates are qualified to teach 6th-12th grades in all areas of FCS. FCS teachers are in high demand in Illinois and across the country.

100 clinical hours embedded in coursework
TB and criminal background checks for clinical work are required yearly

Program provides a ‘sense of belonging’ students – involvement in the FCS teacher education student organization, strong peer support system, work with the program coordinator one-on-one, and excellent faculty!
Most Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTA) are FCS teacher education students. Working with individual faculty, UTAs assist in the daily operations of a semester course.
